The rise of STDs in the America

STDs (sexually transmitted disease) are potentially getting more prevalent in the states. The CDC reported an all-time high number of STD cases in the 2017 report. More than 2 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis were diagnosed. There are even doubled the number of newborn syphilis cases.

Do you know half of all new STDs are in people aged less than 25? Many STDs do not cause any symptoms. The best way to to make sure is to go get a test.

After knowing there is actually a rising problem in the states, the CDC started a campaign to raise peoples’ awareness, hoping to get the message targeted to youngsters. The statistics among college students are worrisome. More work may be needed to get the message delivered.

The best way to prevent the spread of STDs is, of course, using a condom. If you perform any unprotected sex, there is a chance of contracting STD. To protect yourself and your partner, use protection every time.

Inside CDC’s campaign to raise awareness about STDs, they stressed the importance of Getting Yourself Tested. STDs can occur in all age group, yet younger people may be more susceptible. The campaign encourages young people to get tested and treated for STDs and HIV to protect their health and that of their partners.  The CDC recommended getting tested for at least once for HIV. Women aged less than 25 should be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia every year. Women 25 years and older with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners or a sex partner who has an STD should also be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia every year. All sexually active gay or bisexual men should be tested at least once a year for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. Those who have multiple or anonymous partners should be tested more frequently for STDs (i.e., at 3- to 6-month intervals).
